'EW' calls Swift tops this year
Entertainment Weekly has named Top 40 sweetheart Taylor Swift its Entertainer of the Year, making the 20-year-old the youngest-ever recipient of that honor. Why? Just because she won four Grammys, starred in Valentine's Day and debuted a third album after that Kanye West fiasco? Please. The singer is gracious, as always, but tells the mag she finds it amusing when people think her songs are about the likes of ex-boyfriends Taylor Lautner, Joe Jonas or John Mayer: "Sometimes I would laugh because I would see it in print and it would say, 'This song, which is written about her ex, so-and-so …' And they would write about it as if it was fact," she says. "The fact is, I haven't ever confirmed that any song is about any particular person. There's something kind of freeing about that. As far as I'm concerned, it's all still up in the air." Oh, honey, quit thinking there's this great air of mystery. When you write a song about falling for an older man who's kind of a dog, we all know that's John Mayer.
Xtina talks divorce
Christina Aguilera is finally speaking out on her pending divorce from Jordan Bratman. She's still not very specific about why they split up. "Things were so unhealthy and unhappy for both Jordan and me, I knew I had to end it," the 29-year-old tells People. "I really didn't want to hurt Jordan, and I felt torn about splitting our family up." She says it was hard to leave her husband of five years, but it was the best thing for their 2-year-old son, Max: "When you're unhappy in your marriage, your children are the ones who suffer," she says. "That's the last thing I wanted for my son."
A Christmas musical
Here's an idea that may make you want to shoot your eyes out. There's a stage production of A Christmas Story: The Musical in the works, featuring Ralphie himself. We'll wait while you decide if life is still worth living as your childhood memories are shattered into peppermint-scented dust. Well, maybe it's not so bad. Peter Billingsley, who played Ralphie in the original 1983 movie, is producing a musical of the film for the Seattle stage, according to the Hollywood Reporter. "A Christmas Story has always meant a lot to me personally," Billingsley told THR. "I'm excited to bring this film to the stage because the story and the characters lend themselves so well to the world of musicals."
